7 Essential Oils for Lymphatic Health

This is where two of my favorite things come together-essential oils (which I’ve been using nearly 10 years!) and lymphatic health. As a single mother, business owner, and natural health consultant I’m a big fan of any tool or strategy that is simple, quick, and works for many health goals. Essential oils and lymphatic health BOTH fit into that category:

  • Each essential oil you buy has many, many uses which makes them a very handy tool. You use 1-2 drops at a time, making them cost-effective. They’re so easy to use that even my children have learned how to safely use the oils.

  • The lymphatic system is how nutrients get to your cells and how waste is carried away from them. This makes lymphatic health essential for the body to maintain function and heal any condition. If you have cellulite, stress/mood imbalances, sleep issues, constipation, fluid retention, PMS, preparing for or recovering from surgery, auto-immune conditions, joint and muscle pain, allergies, or in post breast explant healing then you really need to take care of your lymphatic health!!!

Knowing this, I’d do just about anything for my lymphatic health, but let’s be real…I still want it to be quick and easy so I can stay consistent. Essential oils are quick and easy to use, and as an added bonus they SMELL good!

Happily, doTerra offers several blends that can help you get the benefits of lymphatic drainage AND smell good.

  1. Citrus Bloom-If you wanted to create a blend perfect for supporting the lymphatic system, you would create Citrus Bloom. I don’t know if they meant to do that, but here’s why I say that: Wild Orange and Grapefruit help clean congestion from the lymph nodes. Lavender and Roman Chamomile helps usher the waste out of the lymph nodes. It adds up to a beautiful combination of citrus and floral scents that you can wear every day.

  2. Citrus Bliss-I like to say this one smells like an orange & cream popsicle. It has the Wild Orange and Grapefruit like Citrus Bloom, but also includes Lemon, Mandarin, Bergamot, Tangerine, and Clementine essential oils. To finish it off, they add vanilla which will make you want to eat it. This one is great for lymph cleansing.

  3. Slim & Sassy-I always say this one is a great blend, but with a terrible name. As for how it can help with lymph drainage, it takes several lymph cleansing oils, adds a few for immune support, and circulation and includes them in one blend.
This blend is a great option to add to glasses of water. Then you’ll be supporting your lymphatic drainage from the inside out.

  4. Digest Zen-Digest Zen is a blend that was created to be used internally as well as externally. It’s thought of mostly for digestion (hence the name), but its real super power is that it helps break down congestion in other areas of the body as well. So using it above your collar bones, where the lymph exits into the cardiovascular system is a great idea. Constipation is one of the hallmarks of lymphatic congestion, so this oil works on several layers to improve your health.

  5. Serenity-Serenity is more than a great oil for helping you let go and relax into sleep. It also has Lavender to help eliminate waste in the lymph nodes and Sandalwood and Roman Chamomile for general lymphatic health. Sleep problems can be created by lymphatic congestion because the body struggles to switch into parasympathetic mode if waste can’t move properly. So this oil will help you create a calm environment while moving the waste internally.

  6. Northern Escape-For this blend, Cypress is the only oil explicitly listed as a powerful lymph mover. But based on my experience, I’m blown away every time I use this blend. My favorite place to check my lymph is on the inner thigh. I like to put Norther Escape on before a shower and check the thigh after. I am never disappointed. As for the smell, It is a combination of many tree/wood oils. It’s the perfect blend for people whose happy place is hiking in the woods and it’s a great deodorant!

  7. AromaTouch-Literally every oil in this blend moves and cleanses lymph. It’s great to use in a massage or after an Assisted Lymphatic Treatment. It can also be used daily on sore areas to support circulation.

how to use these oils

Here are a few quick & simple ways to use the oils from the list:

  • Put a few drops on a dry brush and brush across your skin.

  • Add a drop or two in your daily lotion or body oil. Make sure it’s one that doesn’t have petroleum products, like doTerra’s Hand and Body lotion.

  • Digest Zen & Slim & Sassy only: Add a few drops to a glass of water (in glass or stainless steel cups only).

  • Add 2-3 drops in epsom salt and add to bath water.

  • Put them in a roller bottle and roll on areas with a lot of lymph nodes-the joints, below and above the breasts, inner thighs, armpits, and above the collar bones.

Sound easy enough? Then let’s get you set up.
